4.
Who's Around 03:37
who’s around had me so fooled had me all mixed up waiting for the punch line that never seemed to come turn on the rain and now we’re soaked to the skin there’s still a crowd hanging at your door begging to get in who’s around morning come and let you down static blaring out who’s around lift the lid live underground tell me who’s around are you tired of the brittle game up with the sun like a starter’s gun slink back home again clear to see there’s still a space to fill you’re shoving everything inside none can fill the bill who’s around morning come and let you down static blaring out who’s around lift the lid live underground tell me who’s around i just can’t be sure of what you’re laying at my feet none of these keys fit that lock anymore there’s something i haven’t seen someone i’ve yet to meet
5.
Slow Dive 04:55
slow dive slow dive descending blue surrounds seconds slow miles above in wonder where are you now down below it’s warm inside hope in green eyes steel hum of engines fading out it’s just my thoughts i know you like surprises i took the chance not to call it’s warm inside hope in green eyes let me see them all my dark anticipation slowly melting it drifts into the haze the murmur of my reservations still and silent far away
6.
turn me round i want to believe you’re telling me the truth i need to see behind your eyes inside your mind turn me round i must be ready now turn me round i must be ready now play wait and see it always seemed so good to me i had a dream you washed your hands you turned your back turn me round i must be ready now turn me round i must be ready now what is it you want? tell me now i’d give it up if I knew how
7.
Long Run 03:39
long run days are long don’t mind if I’m wrong just watch and see where it leads maybe time will heal bring some relief here in the summer sun even if winter comes shine on till day is done in for the long run sleep tight don’t try to put it to rights don’t take the weight destiny will be what it will be it’s never late here in the summer sun even if winter comes shine on til day is done in for the long run now you know there’s a reason to keep this in our sights watch it grow through the seasons pay no mind to time
8.
Unspoken 03:53
unspoken bleary-eyed rise and shine i know you won’t be gentle so what if I’m sick and tired you’ll be flying high as a kite come on in i’m just useless when you grin come on now get dressed up we’re going out day spent wonder where the hell it went laughing, smoking it’s ok when I can’t communicate it’s unspoken got that foot in mouth disease can’t seem to keep it to myself would you stay for one more drink think i’ve upset everyone else come on in you could sell me anything come on now could I ever turn you down if you want to get away i’ve got time if you need a little space to feel fine let’s take off for a day
9.
Doubtless 03:39
doubtless little miss frivolous warms my heart just fine puts me through her paces to see if I run a mile slips on a pink frock gets high on patsy cline waits til tragedy starts to sound like a whine she’d like to get away take a holiday out of the public gaze work it out feeling a little fazed just not myself today put it all back in place without a doubt won’t put you on although it would be easy i’d be so wrong to loosen my grip on one so strong whose intentions never falter so i’m patient – that’s me yeah waiting for you i’m doing back flips holding my breath til I’m blue she says that’s not bad – can I get back to you?
10.
Big Sleep 04:53
big sleep don’t thaw me out i like the cold in here chase away the summer sun give me a thick black coat to wrap up all that’s dear to me while they’re away we’ve got the place to ourselves it’s quiet now no-one’s around so who are you? refresh me would you? all that’s dear to me and I resist your words like progress got a tiny itch defying all logic all that’s dear to me caress me down to the big sleep
11.
circumnavigate all the time i kept my distance till you drifted out of sight cursing all my own indifference you were fool enough to fight circumnavigate change of course that comes too late much too slow to turn around we’re forever losing ground hesitating slowly sinking high-brow veil behind is frail trace a thin line round your border through your studied line of defense circumnavigate change of course that comes too late much too slow to turn around we’re forever losing ground hold together stay the same hoping never to fly away
12.
Syncopated 03:01
syncopated swimming to the surface to the sunrise in your face hold on to the moment to that clear shot of grace there’s no time to analyse if it could break here in the commotion of a busy working day still hearing your laughter and watching you play there’s no time to analyse if it could break let’s take our time ‘cos we’re ok when we’re parted syncopated only one breath away right on target open hearted never missing a beat it could take forever sifting through the ash i don’t want to drag out secrets from your past if you should change your mind and you’re inclined i’m not going anywhere
13.
smoke signals take out the day break it open shake up the snow in our little dome make a hell of a scene on christmas eve it’s about time you’re sky pure cinemascope draws me in swallows me whole smoke signals rise looking just like clouds in the sky sinking below time to go to the rescue growing tired wasting chances peering through a keyhole on brilliant summer days floating ideals from one day, to the next when it could be fine our love like a foreign language confusing though we mean the same thing hey you - you took your time again what i most need is a guarantee

about

Debut self-titled album released in 2000. After the amicable break up of my first band Second Child a few years prior, I had a bunch of new songs that needed a home. It was a scary proposition, having been part of a gang for many years. Suddenly I was by myself and having to make decisions without the comfort of committee.
Still with the gentle prodding and encouragement of my dear friend Bob Shepheard who produced, I set sail. It turns out he was more terrified than I was at the prospect. He hid it well however and the sessions were some of the best times in (or out) of a studio ever.
We made a few videos for some of the songs with friend Jonathan King (Black Sheep) directing. One for the track "Good As Gone" won an award in NZ.

Some other people liked the record too:

“We’ve long had a senior squad of Kiwi singer- songwriters as favourite musical sons. Welcome the new boy with an album that deserves the same sort of respect.” NZ Herald
